About the event
Beethoven's last symphony is undoubtedly his most impressive. In three parts he lets you enjoy orchestral drama and the pathos that characterizes Beethoven in his later oeuvre. But an orchestra alone is not enough for the final. The human voice must be used to bring forth the truly unspeakable joy. With Schillers Ode to that Freude Beethoven, with soloists and a large choir, paints a wonderful future picture of a twinned humanity, which was still far away even in his day. The melody he uses for this is simply genius in its simplicity and anyone, whether he knows Beethoven or not, can sing along with the notes.
For such a powerful work you need a conductor who has Beethoven in his DNA. Then you quickly end up with Marc Soustrot, who was chief conductor of the Beethoven Orchester in Bonn for many years. He knows better than anyone the details and finesses of Beethoven's symphonic apotheosis. For the solo parts, Phion has access to Cappella Amsterdam and a vocal quartet of great class. And with this last grandiose symphony they all bring the Beethoven Festival to a glorious close.
